Yesterday’s dreams of tomorrow
Artwork, brochure design, and custom typeface for a tour of London’s most impressive architectural marvels
In approaching this project, I was struck by the idea that many of the buildings on the tour might seem normal to us nowadays, but at the time of their completion – like the Tower Bridge in the 1890s, or the Battersea Power Station in the 1940s — these buildings were considered modern marvels. Inspired by this, I created a tour inspired by retro futurism, brutalist architecture, and German expressionism. Abstract shapes come together to form structures that would seem impossible in the real world. Shadowy, gritty textures align with steel industrialization. The custom typeface, inspired by the films of Fritz Lang, adds to the sensationalized views of the future held in the past.
